PokeRisk

PokeRisk is a game created by me, MM, and is played via the hand held Pokemon video games. It will be played using fourth generation games (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/Heart Gold/Soul Silver). PokeRisk is no where near anything official nor well planned out making it most likely subject to certain gameplay changes, so please bear with any flaws that may occur throughout the game.

Game Phases^

Phase 0 – Getting Started^

*1) Players request to become Gym Leaders until there are at least 4 Gym Leaders (PM/IM a Gym Team to MM for evaluation, you’ll find out the results in two days)

2) 4 Gym Leaders have official playable Gym Teams

3) PokeRisk Starts!

Phase 1 – Initial Claim^

1) Each Gym Leader claims up to 3 different Gyms

2) Type A Claims begin if necessary

3) Both Casuals and Challenges are allowed to be played now

Phase 2 – After Two Weeks^

1) Type A/B Claims continue until there are no more vacant Gyms

Phase 3 – War^

1) Casuals and Challenges are played until there is only one Gym Leader remaining who owns all 17 Gyms who wins

Current Status^

  • Phase: 0
  • Players: MM (Poison), Yama (Fighting), Burrito (Steel), Karura (Dark)
  • Map: Kanto

The Game^

The game of Pokerisk starts with 17 Gyms scattered across the map, Kanto. Players are in the form of Gym Leaders. To become a Gym Leader, one must request to become one for an open Gym. To request it, message me a Team abiding to the Gym’s team rules. If it passes then you will get the spot. Once there, the objective is to beat and take over the rest of the Gym Leaders. In the end, the one who takes over all 17 Gyms is the winner.

TS^

TS (Team Score) is ranking system given to your Pokemon Team. Each Team you have has a different overall TS, meaning if you own several Gyms most of them would most likely have different TS. TS will be awarded to your team when presented to me for evaluation.

How TS is calculated^

I will evaluate certain aspects of your Team presented to me and give you your final score. The initial TS calculation is based on Tier ranking (as presented by Smogon). Each Pokemon is awarded TS for their tier rank. Here is the “official” tier list.

  • OU receive +1 TS
  • BL receive +2 TS
  • UU receive +3 TS
  • NU receive +4 TS

Type Variety Bonus
^

For each additional Type outside your original Gym Type in your Gym Team you gain +1 per Type. This does not stack up for the same Type. (ex. for Water Gym if you have two Water/Ice Pokemon, you’d only get +1 TS instead of +2 TS)

Type Solid^

For each Pokemon that is completely one Type and the same Type as your original Gym Type, you gain +1 TS (ex. if you use a Blastoise and Seaking on a Water Team you’d get +2 TS)

TS Bonuses^

There are several team and individual bonuses awarded for including certain Pokemon in your team. I am the only person who knows them all, but because of so I will not add them to myself. It’s all Pokemon and Team specific so you’ll just have to be lucky. TS Bonuses may only be used by one Gym Leader at a time, but if a Gym Leader changes their Team so the bonus does not apply to it, another Gym Leader is free to grab it. Some free examples (that will be able to be used) I’ll include here.

  • using a Team that is completely one Type +3 TS
  • using Alakazam in a Psychic Team +2 TS
  • using a Hitmon in a Fighting Team +1 TS per Hitmon
  • using any of the Eeveeolutions except Espeon on a Normal Team +1 TS per Eeveeolution
  • using Solrock in a Fire Team +3 TS
  • using Charizard, Aerodactyl, and Dragonite in a Dragon Team +4 TS
  • using Plusle and Minun on an Electricity Team +2 TS

TS Deduction^

Using more than one of any of the following reduces -1 TS per each additional deduction Pokemon. This means you will not get a reduction if you only use one of the following.

Gym Deduction^

After each Gym team is created and finalized to become your Gym Team of choice, it will have -3 TS deducted from its overall TS. This applies only to Gym Teams, meaning, it would be possible to challenge a Gym Leader with their same exact team on normal grounds because you would have 3 more TS than they do.

What is TS used for^

TS first determines who receives a Gym in the initial Gym choosing if more than one people wish to select one Gym. The person with the Team projecting the highest TS will win it. The next role TS has takes place in allowing what Team can fight what Team in official Gym Challenges, which will be expanded on below.

Gym Requesting^

The first step to PokeRisk. To request to become a Gym Leader for a Gym, PM or IM me a Team for a Gym following the appropriate rules for evaluation. After two days the results of whether or not you’ve got the Gym will be announced.

Battles^

In PokeRisk there are 3 different types of battles.

Claims^

At the start of Phase 1, there are several empty Gyms with no leaders. The players then have the right to Claim up to three vacant Gyms. This phase is called the Initial Claim. If more than one Gym Leader Claims the same Gym during Initial Claim, this will result in a Claim battle (Type A Claim). However, if only one Gym Leader claims a certain Gym during Initial Claim, that Gym will stay on reserve for the said Gym Leader until he has a Team ready to represent the Gym and thus finalize the ownership (Teams are to be evaluated by me in the same fashion as the first Gym). However, after two weeks since the start of the game, reserved Gyms will be vulnerable to be Challenged by others in a Claim Battle (Type B Claim).

-Type A Claim^

Type A Claims are battles between two or more Gym Leaders who have Claimed the same Gym during Initial Claim. The battles are fought with the original Gym Teams. If there were only two Gym Leaders involved, the winner of the battle will have the Gym put on reserve until the Gym Leader provides a usable Team for it; if there are more than two the Gym Leaders will play each of the other Gym Leaders involved once and the Gym Leader with the most wins will win the right to reserve that Gym (NOTE: After two weeks from the start of PokeRisk the Gym can be challenged in a Type B Claim battle so it may be wise to create a new Team quick).

-Type B Claim^

Type B Claims can only be done when at least two weeks have passed from the beginning of Phase 1. They are done by a rival Gym Leader challenging a claimed Gym still on reserve without an official Team representing it. If the rival Gym Leader wins, he will overtake the Gym’s reserve status for himself. He then has a one day safety period where he cannot be challenged to another Type B Claim for that Gym. On the contrary, if the rival Gym Leader lost, the original owner of the Claimed Gym on reserve will have a one day safety period.

Casuals^

Casual battles are, as it sounds, free battles between Gym Leaders using their own Gym Team. Nothing significant is gained or lost from a casual battle besides getting to know more about your rival Teams and your own Teams. Note: you must win at least one Casual against a certain Gym before you may Challenge it.

Challenging^

To challenge a Gym Leader for ownership of their Gym, there are a few requirements.

  • you must have beaten the rival Gym at least once in a Casual before in the same Gym you wish to challenge
  • you must use a new Team (not your Gym Team) abiding to their same Type rules for the challenge matches, dubbed the Challenge Team
  • your Challenge Team must have a higher TS than theirs
  • you have to defeat their Trainer Team in a 3 on 3 match using 3 Pokemon of your choice from your Challenge Team

Once done so you can battle the rival Gym. If you win you gain ownership of the Gym and they lose the ownership.

Consequences for Losing^

Losing a casual has no negative impact besides being vulnerable to a future challenge. Losing in a Trainer Battle will provide you a penalty in which the rival Gym you lost to is permitted to challenge any of your Gyms that he chooses with a Challenge Team of up to 3 less TS than your own, but the penalty is lifted after one week since the loss. If you lose to the final challenge match between Gym leaders than you will gain this penalty as well as a permanent -1 TS penalty for your Challenge Team only. Should this happen again then another -1 TS penalty will be applied. The maximum TS penalty on one Challenge Team is -5 TS.

Gym TS Bonus^

You gain +1 overall TS for each Gym you own besides your original Gym on each and every Team you have. This means the more Gyms you take over the more TS your teams will have. At the same time if you lose a Gym then you will lose the Gym TS bonus.

Hacking^

There are a few ground rules here. Hacking may be used in this and it may not. Hacking to create multiple items or to cause uncommon Pokemon to appear is allowed. Beyond that nothing is. No hacking to alter natures, IVs, EVs, illegal moves, abilities, anything inside the Pokemon related. Which also includes PokeSav. Catch/hatch them all please. However you are permitted to speed level up your Pokemon, as all matches are done in level 100 battles anyway.

Gyms, Trainers^

Each Gym Leader will create a secondary Team of 3 Pokemon known as the Trainer Team. Trainer Teams are battled by an opposing challenger before they can battle you for the ownership of a Gym. Keep in mind, the challenging Gym Leader is allowed to use all 6 Pokemon in their team while the Trainer Team can only ever keep 3. However, TS does not affect a Trainer Team in any way.

Changing Teams^

Once you are a Gym Leader you may change your Gym Team by requesting it to me and having me evaluate your new Team, only if the new Team is already ready (caught and trained, ready for battle). You may however change your Pokemon items and movesets freely whenever you want as long as the Pokemon themselves never change. You may do whatever you want to your Trainer Team whenever you want as long as they abide to the Trainer Team rules. Trainer Teams may only have 1 Exception Pokemon out of the 3.

Gym Teams^

The Gym Team is the main Pokemon Team used by your Gym, representing it. As such, it mainly reflects upon the Gym Type assigned to the Gym. 4 out of the 6 Pokemon that compose the Gym Team must have the Gym’s Type as one of their own Types. The other 2 remaining Pokemon can also have the Gym Type, but may also be what’s called Exception Pokemon, using a Type other than the original Gym Type. All Exception Pokemon are Gym Specific. Here is the list.

  • Normal Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Eeveeolutions, as long as they know at least 1 Normal move
  • Fighting Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon in the Humanshape egg group, as long as they know at least 1 Fighting move
  • Flying Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon that can learn Roost, as long as they know at least 1 Flying move
  • Poison Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon that can learn Smoke Screen or Smog, as long as they know at least 1 Poison move
  • Ground Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon that can learn Earth Power as long as they know at least 1 Ground move
  • Rock Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Ground Type, as long as they know at least 1 Rock move
  • Bug Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon in the Bug egg group and Finneon family, as long as they know at least 1 Bug move
  • Ghost Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon that can learn Will-o-Wisp or Spite, as long as they know at least 1 Ghost move
  • Steel Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon that can learn Iron Defense, as long as they know at least 1 Steel move
  • Fire Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Rock Type, as long as they know at least 1 Fire move
  • Water Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon in the Water 3 egg group, as long as they know at least 1 Water move
  • Grass Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Poison Type, as long as they know at least 1 Grass Move
  • Electric Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon that can learn Charge Beam, as long as they know at least 1 Electric move
  • Psychic Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon that can learn Extrasensory or Confusion, as long as they know at least 1 Psychic move

  • Dragon Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon in the Dragon egg group in addition to Aerodactyl, Tyranitar, Feraligatr, Aggron, Steelix, and Rhyperior families, as long as they know at least 1 Dragon move
  • Dark Gym’s Exception Pokemon – Pokemon in the Black Color Group or capable of learning Nasty Plot, as long as they know at least 1 Dark move

Clauses^

Clauses are rules concerning certain bans within the battles of Pokemon battles. PokeRisk will make use of certain Clauses.

  • Species Clause – No two of the same Pokemon per team
  • Item Clause – No two of the same hold items in your team, however items with similar effects like Leftovers and Black Sludge are permitted to be used in one team
  • Evasion Clause – No use of increasing your own Evasion via moves or items, however abilities cannot be avoided so Snow Cloak and Sand Veil are permitted. Accuracy reducing moves are permitted as well
  • Sleep Clause – No more than one Pokemon can be put to Sleep at one time, however Pokemon asleep from Rest do not count towards this
  • Uber Clause – No Ubers bubs

Trainer Team Rules^

  • Same rules apply from before
  • Only 3 Pokemon
  • No Pokemon in the final stage of evolution. Pokemon with no evolutions allowed, Pokemon with no evolutions but prevolutions allowed
  • Only 1 Exception Pokemon
  • Only 1 OU Pokemon

Getting Started^

Pick a Gym Type you’re interested in and take some time creating a Team for it, as well as a 3 Pokemon Trainer Team. Once you’re done message me it (don’t post it openly yet) and I’ll evaluate it. If it passes, in three days there will be a formal update and you will be the owner of the Gym. Once you are, you must create a Title for yourself, and a name for your Trainer. When there are at least 4 Gym Leaders with ready Teams and Trainer Teams, PokeRisk can begin.

If you lose at least one of the Gyms then the Region Bonus is dropped, but can be regained if you take the Gym back again.
